Will turnips grow after cutting off their tops?

If I cut the tops off the turnips before the turnips get big enough to harvest, will the turnips still develop? No one seems to know the answer to this!  Hope you can help! Brenda

Turnip greens can be harvested when they are young and tender, and are usually tastiest if no more than six inches in length. The turnips will continue to generate new leaves but it is best to leave some leaves on the plant to allow continuous growth. Some of the cultivars developed for both root and green production are ‘ Purple Top White Globe’ , and ‘Just Right.’ If the greens or the root become too large they lose their flavor and become tough. Remember to harvest your turnips when they are about three inches in diameter.

I hope that helps clear up the mystery.
