Grow a Vegetable Garden on Your Patio

Don’t let the fact that you don’t have a yard in which to grow a vegetable garden deter you! There are an amazingly wide variety of veggies that you can grow in containers right on your porch, patio or balcony. You will love the convenience of having fresh vegetables and herbs at your fingertips. You won’t have to weed your container garden if you use potting soil and you will love the fresh flavors and simple satisfaction of watching your garden grow.

Grow your container garden with purpose. For instance, if you’d like a Salsa Garden, you can select those varieties of jalapenos, tomatoes, onions and cilantro that will grow best in containers. Do you have a go-to veggie? Grow it on your balcony! Do you like to make fantastic and colorful salads? Grow your salad garden in containers! You can even grow miniature watermelons on your patio!

And if you are a gourmet cook, or want to be, grow herbs. Fresh herbs in any dish will amp up the flavor and you can preserve that fresh taste through the winter. Simply remove the stems and loosely fill a Ziploc bag with the leaves. Tightly push those leaves to the bottom of the bag and then roll the bag tightly, starting at the leaf end and roll tightly as you push the air from the open bag. Close the bag, secure it with a rubber band and freeze it! When ready to use, you just cut off what you need and put the roll back in the freezer.
